In 1887, the mug was lovingly engraved and presented as a special gift to Alex Henry Cutler by his godfather. The inscription reads:

"A GIFT TO Alex Henry Cutler FROM HIS GODFATHER ON June 20th 1887. QUEEN VICTORIA’S JUBILEE YEAR."
